    Rescuing Wasted wool

By the 1990s, industrialized wool from other countried reduced demand for hand-processed Forese wool, leading local farmers to burn or dicard the excess.

The founders of Guðrun & Guðrun were determined to revive the value of this local resource – one that had defined their cultural identity. The two women – one of them a knitwear designer, the other an international development expert – joined forces to launch a new brand committed to reclaiming wasted wool as well as preserving the cultural, aesthetic, environmental, and economic benefits of handknits.

  • Sigrun Gunnarsdóttir, visual artist

The colourful, naivistic and surrealist paintings of Faroese artist Sigrun Gunnarsdóttir (born 1950) tell strong stories. With her distinct and unique style, she is a significant and highly treasured artist in the Faroe Islands.  Sigrun’s paintings are simple in style yet intricate in connotations. Her thoughts,  hopes, and convictions are reflected on the canvas through universal stories  about home, family, closeness, generations, and being grounded in faith.  The foundation from which she tells her stories is a world of symbols, which include, amongst others, the lily, the sparrow, the key, the angel and the bird.
